Mary Righton

Music Teacher
Hi, my name is Mary Righton.
My original background was in the field of opera and classical singing leading me to study in London at the Guildhall School of Music. As I also had a teaching diploma, while in the UK, I also gained experience with teaching at the primary and intermediate levels as a support and relief teacher. On my return to New Zealand I continued teaching singing privately and in schools as well as performing. I expanded my interest in education and working with young people by starting classroom teaching during the new millennium in the field of secondary Drama, Music and English. I also taught at an intermediate level (in 2015) gaining experience as Head of Performing Arts. That involved teaching drama, dance, music theory and keyboard, taking the school choir and directing the school musical which was ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ Most recently, I taught junior and senior English at Pukekohe High School and at Te Kauwhata College, taught a wide range of subjects to all levels: Music, Dance and Drama to intermediate students, English and Social Studies to Year 10 and Art to Years 7 to 10 including Photography to Year 12 and 13 students.
I am really glad to have the opportunity of teaching my favourite subjects of performance music and songwriting at Morrinsville Intermediate and hope many students will catch my love of music through all the lessons!
